This Week in Anime - Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - 09

This Week in Anime, we'll be looking at Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai, episode nine.

A humble episode, this week details a day at home with Kuroneko, as well as a new eroge GET by Kirino.

This hidden side of Kuroneko pulled on my heartstrings a bit.
To see a new side of Kuroneko was a very welcome change. It's funny how she hides her caring older sister stuff with that whole goth girl facade, and all together it makes her pretty charming.

Kirino griping over people already having the game she wants to play, I've been there before...
A majority of this episode is Kirino playing a new game, which was enjoyable for a few reasons.

1. Kirino's reactions are pretty moe.
2. The change in her preference over the characters is strikingly nostalgic, especially for me.
3. I've caught myself making many of the same expressions she does.

After meeting the moe character in the new eroge. I've caught myself making that stupid "ehehehehe" laugh myself many times.

That perverted licking of the lips is also an expression I'm familiar with as I choose which girl to go after first in an eroge. (Spoiler, typically the maids)

Finally, the rich girl version of mai waifu, Saori.

Seeing Saori get a little bit of focus is a plot element all too late. The OG otaku characters usually strike a major chord with me, be they bros like Madarame from Genshiken or Saori from this show, I usually find myself attached to them the most.

She also speaks with the really rustic Samurai accent, and that's pretty sexy.

The next episode is going to be awesome just because it'll have mai waifu in a maid dress.
Kirino finishes the tsundere route in her eroge.
The game itself, at least, what was presented of it, sounded pretty cliche, so I doubt I would have enjoyed it. But at the very least, I can relate to the defeated expression one has upon clearing a game, knowing that it's all over.

This subplot was pretty charming.
A lesser plot line this episode was the fact that the three of them are now considerably good friends, as they all have this picture in their respective rooms. Kirino and Kuroneko fight a lot, but as the saying goes, enemies don't eat from the same plate.

All in all, for all it's story faults and stagnatation, I'm still really enjoying this show, and my week just won't be complete if I don't watch this every Sunday.

That said, I also want to that the guys at Mazui subs for pulling through for us and getting subs out despite their hiccups this week.

This Week in Anime - To Aru Majutsu no Index - 08

Let it be known that I'm not a lolicon. I prefer my waifu to be of adult breeding age, not well endowed, but a healthy medium between average and pettanko. (B-C cups?)

That said, it's really hard not to like certain characters.

How do they get this big? Seriously?
Anyway. unlike the previous TWA (This Week in Anime), I won't provide a complete spoiler of the episode, as this particular episode didn't strike as strong a chord with me.

It's the Academy City with Sports Festival episode, a staple in every school-related anime, with an Indexy twist.

From what I know, granted I haven't actually taken the time to read the light novels (I've been meaning to), JC Staff has done their usual butchering job with Index, although I personally like it.

JC Staff, for what they're worth, make a beautiful kind of anime, and even in a downtime episode that's leading up to the next action-packed art, the visual experience is enjoyable and fun.

The foundations for the next arc have been laid, with plenty of service in between.

If you're just casually following this show, this is a good episode.

News - Take Moon Gets Animated

For those that are familiar with Type-Moon derivative fiction, Eri Takenashi's Take Moon manga is pretty funny. The same artist and writer behind Kannagi, Eri Takenashi is also a staff member for Type-Moon, so a lot of the content in Take Moon is aimed towards details about the characters that while making it inaccesible to newcomers, pretty cheeky and funny for those "in the know".

That said, it has been announced that Take Moon will be getting an anime. So far, the only detail I have been able to gain (granted I haven't looked very hard) has been that the director will be Seiji Kishi, the director for Seto no Hanayome and Angel Beats!

You can take that however you wish.

Winter '10 - The Story Thus Far

We're about halfway into the Fall/Winter anime season for 2010 and I think it's safe to draw some conclusions.

Let's start off with the show I'm currently downloading the latest episode of.

The World God Only Knows.

First, this show started off pretty good. The plot kind of goes nowhere quickly and the story is ridiculously simple. It's pretty run of the mill, but that could or could not be a good thing. It's...safe.

The manga was pretty popular and the overall feel is light. I'm still watching this because it's ridiculously easy.

Yosuga no Sora

I played Yosuga no Sora. I played the shit out of Yosuga no Sora because I have a maid fetish and the maid in YnS is pretty hot.

That said, I couldn't enjoy the anime at all, and have since dropped it. This isn't because the show has slews of quality streaks or is eye cancer, but because I have a large porn stash, and softcore isn't really my thing.

I have a hard time figuring out if this show is supposed to be ironically funny, comedic funny, or super serious. The game itself doesn't even have a harem ending, I don't see where they're coming up with all this 'new guy rolls into town with his incestual sister, bangs everyone.' shit from. I really do not.

Moving on.

(The note Lia hits at around 0:15 just makes my ears cringe, am I the only one?)
Fortune Arterial

What is with the world and vampires? Really. Ok, now this show is -really- run of the mill. It's the same eroge-turned-anime that we've seen a million times and doesn't really stride much in it's own territory.

If you haven't already grown tired of this, and it's like...2AM...and you came buckets to the original game (which was substandard if I recall) then I -guess- it's an ok show.

Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt

Now. Gainax are master trolls as we all know, so I'm not going to spend too much time on this one.

It's clever.

Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai

Now, I like this one.

But I'm disappointed to see this title deviate so much from the original story, I'm also disappointed to see so little screentime for Saori, who I consider to be the best character behind Kuroneko. It's pretty funny but still pretty safe. The biggest appeal for it is the catchy music and story, coupled with pretty high production values.

Anything else I'm either saving for another entry, or is shit and thus dropped without comment.
