Nothing but Screenshots - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Blu-ray

Nothing but Screenshots is the corner where I post nothing but screenshots, and add little captions along the way.

Today we'll be looking at the recently released The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya on Blu-ray, in glorious 1080p.

It should be noted that Disappearance comes out on blu-ray in a little over two weeks, so I'll do another one of these for that.

And another bunch of them for each of the Kara no Kyoukai movies and OVA.

You can really see the film grain on this opening sequence.
All the way up to this scene. Hearing her introduction after so long was like a heartfelt welcome back to some of my best memories.
The opening is extremely colorful and beautifully animated. They just don't make them like this anymore.
You can see the slight blush undertones in her lips and hands so clearly!
This entire sequence has so much going on in stellar, vibrant colors that it's hard to tell where your eyes are supposed to be.
This and the following screenshot are two of my favorite scenes in the entire opening.
Kyon just not giving a fuck.
That arrogant smile and shining confidence is why Haruhi will always be my one true waifu.
This wouldn't work, Haruhi and Nagato aren't in the same class.
I wish the anime would have shown something like this. The thought of Haruhi playing the piano is much more moe than her playing the guitar.
Her choice in undergarments is disappointingly bland...
Look at the specs of spit coming out of her mouth, the quality on scenes like this is amazing!
I cannot hate on those that choose Nagato over Haruhi.
For as much of a cast typed voice actress as she is, it's a shame that moe characters like Mikuru are all Yuko Gotou is known for. She does such a good gang leader too, like in the Lucky Channel specials from Lucky Star.
I know it was in the original too, but lolshuffle.
Even small bits like this are done so well.
Dances are really hard to animate, and three dancers all doing the same move even more so. That said, it's good to see each character's unique personalities shine through in their movements.
Left: Doesn't give a fuck. Right: Genki genki. Far right: FABULOUS!

I'm so sorry, if it means anything it's a bitchin' movie.

I actually saw it in LA when Bandai did a one night only showing, it was pretty amazing.

Is it bad I'm also really looking forward to the single action scene Azaka got in Oblivion Recorder?

  4. Haruhi in the light novels actually plays the piano, not the guitar, that's why she asks Nagato for help to play the guitar in the concert XD
